This course provides participants with an overview of the core concepts underlying Responsive Survey Design (RSD). Topics include uncertainty in survey design; the role of paradata – data that describes the survey data collection process – in informing design decisions; and the range of potential RSD interventions. These interventions include optimizing the timing and sequencing of survey modes, efficiently deploying incentives, and integrating two-phase sampling with other design modifications. The course will address interventions applicable to face-to-face, telephone, web, mail and mixed-mode surveys.
